Buy and Sell

Terms of use:

  • Intending purchasers must register and obtain bidding numbers from the office before the sale commences.
  • A buyer’s premium of 15% including GST applies to all antique auctions and a buyer’s premium of 17.25% including GST applies to all art auctions.
  • Payment is by cash, EFTPOS, cheque, credit card (2.95% surcharge) or direct transfer by prior arrangement with the auctioneers.
  • Purchased lots can only be uplifted upon receiving a paid receipt from the office.
  • By act of registration you are deemed to have read and agreed to the terms and conditions of the Auctioneer’s Association of New Zealand, a copy of which is displayed.
  • All clients leaving absentee bids must contact the auctioneers immediately following the sale.
  • The auction starts when the auctioneer starts the first bid, and it ends when the auctioneer makes it clear that the bidding is closing.
  • There are items for sale in this auction where the vendor of the goods is selling the goods in trade as a supplier, within the meaning of the Consumers Guarantees Act 1993.  Those lots which are in this category are noted as ‘IT‘.
  • There are items for sale in this auction where the item is offered for sale with a reserve price.  Those lots which are in this category are noted as ‘R‘.
  • There are items for sale in this auction where vendor bids are permitted.
  • Vendor approval is applicable to all lots.

Telephone bidding & Absentee Bidding:
If you are unable to attend the auction in person, you can elect to bid by telephone or leave an absentee bidding form. Telephone bidding must be arranged with McCormack & McKellar prior to the auction and is only acceptable for lots valued at over $100. A member of staff will telephone you during the auction to relay your bids to the auctioneer and the rooms.
Alternatively, McCormack & McKellar staff can bid on your behalf according to your instructions using this bidding form 
These bids will be executed as cheaply as possible depending on other bids and/or reserves. Please check lot numbers carefully. 

Payments:

Successful bidders are asked to pay in New Zealand dollars within 48 hours of the date of sale by cash, cheque, EFTPOS, credit card (2.95% surcharge) or direct transfer to our bank.
Bank details: ASB Armagh Street, Christchurch, McCormack & McKellar Auction Trust Account 12-3151-0123845-00. Please include purchaser bidder number and sale date.
Goods purchased may be collected as soon as full payment has been received and it is the responsibility of the purchaser to pack and/or arrange transport of their goods. 
Any items not collected within 7 days from the date of sale without prior arrangement may be subject to a storage and insurance fee.
